News Corp. analyze the possibility selling the company that calculates indices Dow Jones

The American company News Corp. examines selling the company that calculates the Dow Jones index, with a history of 125 years, of American stock exchange.

Also, they hired the financial group Goldman Sachs to attract investors, said a close source to situation cited by the British daily Financial Times.

News Corp., a company controlled by billionaire Rupert Murdoch, took over the Dow Jones’ business two years ago, when bought the Wall Street Journal newspaper for $ 5.6 billion dollars.

Goldman Sachs and News Corp. declined to comment. According to specialists in the field, among the companies concerned could include rivals Standard & Poor’s, the company that owns the FTSE index of British stock exchange or MSCI Barra.

An auction could attract and operators of capital markets, including NYSE Euronext, or service companies’ of financial information, such as Bloomberg or Reuters Thompson.
